Teachers banned using Mobile Phones in Class: Bihar's Madhubani District Imposes Strict Ban

The district administration of Madhubani in Bihar has officially prohibited school teachers from using mobile phones during class hours. The directive aims to ensure that educators remain entirely focused on imparting quality education without digital interruptions.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, by Anand Sharma, an IAS officer from the 2013 batch who currently serves as the District Magistrate (DM) of Madhubani. Sharma addressed the issue during a 'Census Festival' organized in the district.

Emphasizing the importance of an undistracted educational environment, Sharma stated, "It is essential that teachers devote class hours to imparting education and shun the use of mobile phones". To enforce this mandate with legal backing, the district administration has invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) across the entire district. Under this provision, any use of a mobile phone by a teacher while conducting a class will be treated as a direct violation of the section, which authorizes administrators to issue orders to prevent public nuisance.
