Odisha government has taken a decisive step to protect students by announcing an early summer vacation. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the proposal on Friday, confirming that all government, government-aided, and private schools across Odisha will remain closed starting April 27, 2026.
Typically, the summer break for students in Odisha spans from May 6 to June 17. However, the state has been experiencing an extreme heatwave, with temperatures in several districts soaring past 40°C.
Considering the severe health risks posed to children commuting to and from school, the School and Mass Education (SME) department—in consultation with the Special Relief Commissioner—submitted a proposal to advance the holidays. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi prioritized student safety and immediately approved the early shutdown.
