Chennai, May 10, 2026: In a major political and
administrative transition for Tamil Nadu, P. Venkataramanan has
officially been appointed as the new Minister for School Education. He
was sworn into the state cabinet today, May 10, 2026, alongside newly
elected Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam
(TVK) party.
The appointment marks the beginning of a new
administration in the state’s education department. Venkataramanan, 48,
brings a strong academic and legal background to the portfolio. An
advocate by profession, he holds a Master of Commerce (M.Com) from
Annamalai University, an MBA from Periyar University, and a law degree
(LLB) from Bangalore University. Serving as the Treasurer of the TVK, he
secured a decisive victory in the recent assembly elections from the
Mylapore constituency in Chennai, defeating incumbent candidates by a
significant margin of nearly 29,000 votes.
Venkataramanan takes
over the School Education portfolio from the outgoing minister, Anbil
Mahesh Poyyamozhi of the DMK. Speaking shortly after the swearing-in
ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Venkataramanan expressed his
dedication to serving the state’s youth and advancing the public
education system under Chief Minister Vijay’s leadership.
